Admission and Application
General admission requirements Students who wish to enrol in a MSc programme at Wageningen University must have:

at least a BSc degree (or equivalent) in a field of science relevant to the specific programme selected;

a GPA ( G rade P oint A verage) for the BSc study of at least 7 (or 70% of the maximum of the scale);

good skills in mathematics and/or statistics;
-
basic computer skills (Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook; use and structure of the Internet; RSI-prevention).

Specific admission requirements for the MSc programme Geo-information Science The MSc programme Geo-information Science combines a wide scope of disciplines: Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences and Geo-information Sciences. English language proficiency To study in Wageningen in an English-taught MSc program, it is essential that you speak, read and write fluently in English. All applicants except native speakers (USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the English part of Canada) must be able to provide recent evidence of their spoken and written command of English. In addition to the entry requirements, all students (except native speakers) are required to undergo an assessment of their English language skills at the Wageningen University Language Centre (CENTA) prior to the beginning of their study. Admission procedure The applicant must complete the application form and submit it with all necessary documents. The Academic Committee on Admissions reviews the application based on an individual assessment of the applicant's academic record (curriculum, grade point average and final thesis report or research paper) and relevant work experience. The applicants will be informed of the Committee's decision by letter. Exemptions Students are admitted to the MSc Geo-information Science programme with a study period of 24 months, equal to 120 credits (ECTS (=European Credit Transfer System)). Depending on prior work experience, it may be possible for students to be exempted from the internship (24 credits), which is part of the programme. This exemption is only possible based on relevant working experience gained after obtaining the BSc degree. If you believe you should be exempted from specific parts of the MSc program you must state this and the reason for exemption on the application form. (back to top of page)
Are you still in the process of obtaining a BSc degree? Students in the last year of their BSc program may also apply for admission prior to their graduation. The Admision Committee can tentatively admit a student based on a transcript of his or her academic record, relevant research conducted by the student and the expected date of graduation, and an official letter from their home university stating that the student will have completed all the requirements of the degree program in due time. After graduation, students must submit the certificate prior to the start of the academic year. (back to top of page)
Study contract After admission to the MSc Geo-information Science, the study adviser conducts an intake interview with the student during which the abilities and desires of the student are surveyed. A selection of graduate courses will be compiled for each individual student in accordance with the thesis topic. The graduate courses the student has selected must be approved. The individual program, the already acquired competencies and the deficiencies will be stated in a study contract. (back to top of page) |
